The Far Cluster: Sectors 24,33 to 33,42.
There are 5 extremely large wormholes in the 5th ring that lead to the perimeter of a new cluster of stars, sectors 24,33-33,42. There are no SOS or COM signals there, instead there are alien wrecks and alien buildings on solid planets, moons an asteroids.
On solid planets, moons and asteroid surfaces can be found alien wrecks. You can research them for 50,000 RP's each, with a 6 hour timer that you don't have to remain in system for. Currently most contain 5,000-10,000 fuel, less than 20% contain one of four components needed to make a working death ray.
There are also alien buildings on some worlds. You have to research the building (1M+ RP) then fight the aliens, then staff the building. (100K+ crew) buildings can't be moved and there are several types of buildings. IMO, not worth the effort, as the amount of crew required make them not worth the expense.
The "alien cluster" is a decent place to set up mining operations, but bear in mind that in order to sell to earth you need to find or keep track of at least one big wormhole.

- Death rays kill 5,000 personnel regardless of the amount of armor or shields a ship has. Thus for about 1.5 million RP's each you can have a working MK-1 death ray and 100K+ fuel. Since Sir emi has put safety overrides and MAU's on pirate ships, IMO death rays are not worth the time it takes to search for them, as you need MK-20 to be effective, which takes hundreds of hours of game time searching to find enough components.
- At the wreck confirmation screen the is a section owned by. If it is blank you can confirm and start the timer. It is considered a hostile act to take a wreck belonging to someone else.
- There are a total of 700 alien wrecks in the far cluster, and if someone else has picked up all the wrecks in a sector there will be no wrecks available till they repopulate, so at any given time some sectors will have few wrecks, other sectors will have many.
- Sir Emi has said that one of the updates will have something else to be found in alien ships, but that is in the future.
